Saturday February 4th 10am-4pm

Drop in: Machine embroidered heart to make into a Valentine card or add a ribbon loop for a pretty decoration.  £5

Saturday 11th February 10- 4pm 

Recycled bags and cushions Price includes threads and lunch, as this is a recycling event, please bring along your own fabrics to recycle.

You will have the opportunity to make 2 items, with an option of different bags or cushions. In the process you’ll get to learn and practise some basic sewing techniques, get to grips with the sewing machine and explore some different design ideas.

£60 including lunch and tea and coffee throughout the day.

Saturday 18th February 10am-4pm

Freehand machine embroidery basics, come along and try this exciting way to create beautiful textiles.  You will make a lovely purse or a cuff to take home.  No experience needed. £60 including lunch and tea and coffee throughout the day.

Swishing evening

Friday 2nd March 6.30 -9pm

An opportunity to swap those old clothes and accessories you can’t bear to part with but never wear.   At The Making House   £5 for the evening.

March 8th 15th 22nd 29th April 5th – Dressmaking Course

This programme is designed so that you can make a simple skirt from a commercial pattern over 5 weeks (free 1 hour consultation with Joelle prior to the course to discuss your requirements), or you can create a selection of bags and cushions while learning new techniques.   Please bring your own fabrics and thread.

  1. Using a commercial pattern:  Learn what all those lines and dots mean, Joelle will explain all the sewing jargon and show you how easy it is to get started making clothes for yourself.

We will discuss how to choose suitable fabrics and using recycled fabrics.

  1. Getting to know the sewing machine:  Making straight seams, curved seams and getting a neat finish.
  1. Zips: How to put them in, either in the skirt you are making, or a cushion or bag.
  1. Button Holes: Are quick and easy on a sewing machine, for clothes or cushion or bag fastening.
  1. Waist bands and Hems: All you need to know to finish your skirt & finishing off those bags and cushions.

£75 for all 5 workshops (single dates £17.50 each)

Saturday 31st March 10am-4pm

Altered Clothing Workshop, bring along a jacket (or other garment) that either no longer fits your body or your life and we will spend the day redesigning it to make something you will love to wear again.

This could involve reshaping, or cutting up to make a waistcoat, adding buttons and beads and other decorative finishes.  Free 1 hour consultation with Joelle to discuss your ideas prior to the workshop, to ensure you get the best value from the day.  £60 including lunch and tea and coffee throughout the day.
