Recycling Jackets into Bags

Its been a busy couple of weeks, saying goodbye to my friends in Burton upon Trent, moving house to North Lincolnshire and finishing my last weekly Dressmaking Course at The Making House.   To top it off we had a busy Jacket Upcycling Day at The Making House, this is a workshop I will run again in both Burton and Lincolnshire.

The ladies got busy selecting fabrics and buttons to go with their bag design. Jackets and coats were soon being cut up, and they began to understand how pressing really does make sewing easier.
Having never used a sewing machine, Carly got very creative with a navy jacket, adding some nautical touches….

and Andrea turned a tan coat with a check lining, and a green cord skirt into a lovely bag with pockets and a button tab fastening.

For more photos of the day The Making House Facebook Page and hopefully a picture of Anna’s finished bag soon!

For dates of more workshops you can sign up for my email newsletter or keep an eye on the calender on my website.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day on Joelle’s recycled bag workshop, I even got my head around the importance of ironing and good preparation! Everyone left really chuffed with what they’d made from unloved charity shop finds. Joelle also did a great dressmaking course for us and will be back in May for a Machine Embroidery workshop and June for a Sewing basics workshop. Check out our workshops page for details!
